Tides of Hope - a play script

Set in Kenya’s northeastern province, this play follows Janet, a gifted and resilient student whose promising academic life begins to unravel after the death of her mother and the hospitalization of her father. Forced to live alone in a dangerous region and fend for herself, Janet struggles to balance survival with school, leading to missed classes and growing tension with her teachers and peers. When she leaves school temporarily to raise transport money for a crucial county maths contest, her absence nearly costs the school its chance to compete. Although Janet wins the contest, her return sparks controversy, discipline, and misunderstanding. Only her friend Hamoud stands firmly by her side. As hidden truths about Janet’s hardships come to light, a tense confrontation exposes the cost of silence and misjudgment. In the end, courage, honesty, and community support give Janet a second chance, highlighting the power of compassion, communication, and collective responsibility in overcoming adversity.
